History
The South West Coast Path opened in stages over five years: the Cornish coast in 1973, South Devon and Dorset in 1974, the Exmoor coast in 1975, and Somerset and North Devon in 1978, the year it was designated a National Trail.
It follows the coast of the south-west peninsula from Minehead in Somerset to Poole Harbour in Dorset.
