History
The John Muir Way is named after the conservationist John Muir (1838-1914), who was born in Dunbar and became a founder of America's national parks. It links his birthplace with Helensburgh, from where he left Scotland for the United States.
It was officially opened by the then First Minister, Alex Salmond, in Dunbar on 21 April 2014. A shorter John Muir Way had existed in East Lothian, and most of it was absorbed into the new coast-to-coast route.
It was designated one of Scotland's Great Trails in 2017.
